The easiest way (that we have discovered so far) is to ship books by USPS Media Mail to our favorite shipping company’s warehouse in the US (belizefreight.com). From there it will be delivered directly to us.

Note: Media Mail has a limit of 70lbs!

The cost of the shipping from the warehouse to Belize can be covered by you or we can get funding from other donors ($15-30). Contact us to arrange this part.

PACKING YOUR BOXES:

We recommend the following size boxes:

Medium box 18”x 18” x 16” (80-180 books) 
MAX 70lbs – Media mail is approx. $40 per box

Small box 16”x 12” x 12” (60-100 books)
 about 40lbs – Media mail is approx. $24 per box

Boxes should be packed as tightly as possible to avoid shifting around. They should be taped up well.
PLEASE NOTE: only children’s books should be mailed in the boxes – the post office does not allow non-media items in the “media mail” category and we may be charged import duties for other items. 

MAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Please follow the instructions on this page very carefully:

THEN send an email to [email protected] with the following information:

• Your name
• Shipping company you used and tracking code if you have
• Estimated delivery date
  

(If you have a small box and prefer to send by post office – please click on the “Anywhere else in the US” tab  for directions)

If you live on the East Coast between Florida and NY, Texas, New Orleans, (sometimes: Chicago/Detroit), we work with a wonderful Company, Belize Freight, who drives trucks from these locations every month. They give us a discount and only charge US$50-100 per large box from the US to our location in Belize.

There is also a warehouse in Houston and Medley Florida where boxes can be dropped off.

Shipping is approx $50 per box*

Medium box 18”x 18” x 16” (80-180 books) Heavy-duty Cardboard
Shipping is approx $40 per box*

If you want send something other than books, please contact us first as there may be an issue with customs (books are duty free).

*These are the prices from previous shipments with our discount. There is a limit to how many boxes we can get discounted per month (especially during Christmas) also occasionally shipping regulations change so the cost varies. Pick-ups in Florida will usually cost less since that is where the port is.

If you live near Houston, you can take your book donation directly to the warehouse of the shipping company we use, belizefreight.com.  They will then bring the box directly to us. Please mention that it is for the “Belize Children’s Book Project/Heitha Beane” to get our discount.

We are located in Belmopan. WhatsApp or call us at 632-5477 to arrange a pickup or drop-off of books.  

Unfortunately, we have not found a reasonable way to ship books from other countries (let us know if you know of any).

However, there are book wholesalers and liquidators in the US we can buy from on your behalf who will ship to us.  100 children’s books is approx US$95, 1,000 books is approx Us$700.
